Dre JA Tells The Industry To ‘Keep Up’

February 23rd, 2023

Dancehall artist Dre JA has released a new video for his latest single, Keep Up.

“The way the song was written shows that there are different layers to the term ‘keep up’. From a personal standpoint, it is a reminder to me to aspire to be greater than I am at this point, while also acknowledging the obstacles, the impediments, the stumbling blocks you have to navigate to get to that level of greatness,” Dre Ja said in an interview.

“Artists like Vybz Kartel and Bob Marley have reached the pinnacles, and these are the kind of people I aspire to be like, and I want to be better than them in what I do, eventually, that is the goal. Keep up,” he said.

The video is already generating major attention in the industry.

The ‘Keep Up’ single is part of his 8-track EP, Mind Control, which he hopes to release later this year.

He is booked to perform on shows in Europe with gigs in Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands in October.

“I am really looking forward to shows in Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana in November,” he said.

The artist, whose real name is Andre Davy, was born on September 1, 1984, in the Corporate Area in Jamaica. He is carving out a reputation as a music producer, songwriter, and singer striving from early teens to improve his career.

His musical knowledge comes from his early years in high school, where he spent much time at the studio of legendary reggae icon Jimmy Cliff and the studio of well known musician Grub Cooper, lead singer of the Fab5 band.

“Those experiences cemented my heart in the music industry,” he said.

At times, he has worked at a variety of positions in the industry, even working as a manager of veteran reggae singer Junior Reid. He has been involved in music production as he is the Director of Mining Gold Studio Limited, a studio based in the Corporate Area.

“A Grammy award is my ultimate goal, I am not stopping till I get there,” he said.
