Swansea City are in talks to land United States forward Jordan Morris on a six-month loan to bolster their hopes of promotion to the Premier League.

The Seattle Sounders winger, 26, had offers from Bundesliga clubs but is poised to be part of Steve Cooper’s squad at the Liberty Stadium for the rest of the campaign.

His loan is seen as a coup for the Championship club as Morris attracted interest from European clubs having indicated he could move away from America after losing in the MLS Cup final last year.

According to sources at Swansea, he could arrive next week as United States players are currently in a training camp in Florida.

Morris has been a first-team player for Seattle for five years and has broken into the national team during that time. He had also previously impressed in a trial with German club Werder Bremen but chose to stay in MLS rather than move to Europe at that stage of his career.

Swansea manager Cooper has been looking to add to his squad during the January transfer window to maintain his team’s hopes of automatic promotion and a return to the Premier League after three seasons.

Last season he loaned Rhian Brewster from Liverpool and his goals helped the club get into the play-offs, with hopes Morris can have a similar positive impact. This year he has brought in Freddie Woodman and Marc Guehi on loan, and both have played regularly, with Cooper’s players currently on a five-match unbeaten run.

Cooper is also looking at Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a free transfer to provide cover for Woodman. The 33-year-old will provide back-up after Steven Benda’s injury, which meant teenager Lewis Webb was on the bench for the FA Cup win at Stevenage last weekend.

“I’m quite happy to go on record to say how happy we are with Lewis Webb,” Cooper said. “He’s a young goalkeeper with lots of potential, but is it the right time and place for him now to play in the Championship? He’ll certainly back himself, but you’ve got to time these things right, and we could do with another goalkeeper in the building.”
