Footage Shows Indians Inside Jamaica’s Airport Waiting to be Sent Home – Watch Video

May 7th, 2024

Scores of Indians and Uzbeks who arrived in Jamaica days ago on an unauthorised flight were captured on camera at the Norman Manley International Airport, waiting to be sent home. A video showing the Indian visitors was shared online, showing them standing around, seated in chairs, and lying on the floor.

A report states that the Airbus A340, on which German crew presenters and at least one French national were aboard, travelled through Dubai and Egypt before arriving in Jamaica last Thursday/Friday. As of 2:04 p.m. today (Monday), over 200 visitors were still awaiting flight clearance to depart.

Masakui Rungsung, India’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, informed the Jamaica Gleaner that the high commission is working with Jamaican authorities to ensure a “safe and smooth” repatriation process for the visitors.

Additionally, it is uncertain whether all of the Indians were present at the airport. Earlier reports indicated that some of the Indians were spotted in Downtown Kingston. Further reports have detailed that some of the Indians lodged at the ROK Hotel in the vicinity.

Although the reason for their arrival in Jamaica is unclear, reports suggest that some of the visitors claimed they were en route to Nicaragua, while others stated their destination was Canada.

Meanwhile, the opposition, the People’s National Party (PNP) has urged the Government to provide prompt clarification on the matter, citing the breach of immigration and customs protocols by the chartered flight. However, the Government has not released an official statement regarding this incident.
