Wizards’ Thomas Bryant done for season with ACL tear

January 10th, 2021

Thomas Bryant’s season is likely over.

The Washington Wizards center suffered a partially torn ACL in his left knee after falling just minutes into their 128-124 loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday, the team announced on Sunday.

Though the Wizards did not provide a timeline for his impending surgery and return, Bryant’s season is likely over.

“He’s in pain, but we hope for the best,” Wizards coach Scott Brooks said after the game, via The Athletic’s Fred Katz. “One thing about TB: He’s a great kid that works hard, plays with passion, gives you everything he has.”

Bryant, less than two minutes into Saturday’s contest at Capital One Arena, crashed to the floor under the basket and grabbed his left knee in pain.

He remained on the ground for several minutes before limping off to the locker room, and did not return.

Though he only appeared in 10 games, Bryant was off to a career start. The 23-year-old was averaging a career-high 14.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 65 percent from the field.

Bryant is in the second year of the three-year, $25 million deal he sighed with the Wizards.

“TB’s a huge part of what we do on both ends of the floor, and he’s been playing big for us,” backup center Robin Lopez after the game, via The Washington Post. “He’s been playing big for us … We love having him on the floor. I love playing with him.”
