Top Nebraska WR Wan’Dale Robinson to transfer
January 11th, 2021Nebraska’s offense will be without Wan’Dale Robinson in 2021.
Robinson said Monday that he would be entering the transfer portal after his mother had tested positive for COVID-19. Robinson was Nebraska’s fourth-leading rusher and its leading receiver in 2020.
“With some of her health complications this disease has caused other issues to occur,” Robinson wrote in his statement. “For anyone who knows me knows she’s the biggest reason I play the game of football. Being away from my mother and not seeing her during the season hurt me.”
Robinson said he wanted to be able to see his mother more often at his new school. The four-star recruit in the class of 2019 is a native of Kentucky and was the No. 6 athlete in the country.
“I intend to find a place closer to my mother and family that will still allow me to achieve my dreams and goals,” Robinson said.
Robinson had nearly 1,500 yards in two seasons
Nebraska has used Robinson as both a running back and a receiver frequently through his two seasons with the school. He was the team’s third-leading rusher and second-leading receiver as a freshman in 2019 when he had 88 carries for 340 yards and had 40 catches for 453 yards.
Nebraska used him more as a receiver in 2020. He was the team’s top receiving threat with 51 catches for 461 yards in eight games. He also rushed 46 times for 240 yards.
Robinson found the end zone less frequently in 2020 than he did in 2019, however. He scored just two TDs this past season after scoring five in 2019.
How his transfer impacts Nebraska
The Huskers have struggled in Scott Frost’s tenure and Robinson was set to feature as Nebraska’s top offensive weapon in 2021 with the departure of RB Dedrick Mills. No other Nebraska player outside Robinson had more than 18 catches in 2020.
While QB Adrian Martinez is back for another season along with backup Luke McCaffrey, Nebraska will be searching for answers elsewhere in the offense. Here’s how Rivals’ HuskerOnline.com analyzed the impacts of Robinson’s transfer.
Frost will be heading into a pivotal fourth season at Nebraska, and it almost has the feel as if he is starting over in the skill position department. This team will have no proven backs or receivers in 2021, and they will have the only starting quarterback returning in the Big Ten (Adrian Martinez) that did not have a touchdown pass of 20 yards or longer in 2020.
Martinez was just 6-of-20 for 176 yards on his throws that traveled 20 yards or more last season. He had a Big Ten worst 24.2 NFL passer rating on those throws according to PFF. Michigan’s Joe Milton was the next worst with a 53.2 NFL passer rating on deep-ball throws.
