James Harden passes Charles Barkley on all-time list in first game with Nets

January 17th, 2021

Charles Barkley had a lot to say about the idea of James Harden joining Brooklyn when the conversation first began, and he continues to criticize the newest member of the Nets, along with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Saturday’s game against the Orlando Magic marked the beginning of Harden’s Brooklyn career — starting off on the right foot by rocking the Nets’ Classic Edition 1990-91 New Jersey throwback uniform.

While Harden played the role of facilitator to open things, starting at point guard with Kyrie Irving (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) out, he began to look for his offense once he got comfortable. As NBA fans well know, that means Harden was looking to get to the free-throw line.

In his first trip to the line, Harden knocked down two free throws. The second free throw was Harden’s 6,351st of his career, which moved him to No. 14 all-time for free throws made in NBA history — breaking the tie he had with Barkley.

Up next for Harden on the list is Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson (6,375).
