Terrifying Video Shows Passengers Jumping From A Sinking Vessel Resulting in An American Tourist Drowning – YARDHYPE

November 16th, 2023

A 75-year-old American woman drowned in rough seas after a ferry began to take on water and eventually sank north of Nassau in the Bahamas near Blue Lagoon Island, a popular tourist destination, on Tuesday. In addition, two other passengers were taken to the hospital for future treatment.

It is evident from the dramatic video recordings of the incident that the passengers of the boat were in a state of terror and huddled on one side of the sinking vessel as it began to list. As the video continues, passengers can be seen jumping into the water, lunging to safety as nearby vessels arrive to try to assist the passengers in the water.

Sarah Plourde, a passenger, gave an account of what took place by stating, “The first floor filled with water, and we had to climb to the side and climb out the window.” She continued, “The captain wouldn’t turn the engines off so we were scared to swim out the back due to the propeller.”

Multiple reports indicate that the double-decker boat was loaded with about 100 people, most of them being cruise ship passengers. During the first half an hour of the ferry’s journey on Tuesday morning, it encountered rough seas, and water began to make its way into the ferry.

On Tuesday, meteorologists predicted poor conditions in the area, and a Gale Watch was set to be issued. However, during that time, a Small Craft Advisory was in effect from the Bahamas Department of Meteorology, and smaller boats were urged to remain anchored.
