Sexual Harassment Scandal Rocks the JDF

January 18th, 2021

A (JDF) Jamaica Defence Force officer has been accused of sexually harassing and preying on young women soldiers under his command. This was revealed when a damning allegation was made against him.

This allegation was made by a relative of a woman private, who claimed that his relative was targeted by her superior even though she only joined the army less than a year ago, she was pursued as the officer wanted to have a  sexual relationship with her.

The relative said she requested a transfer, which she eventually received; but, when she thought all was settled she was charged and placed in military prison for 14 days.

After she realized she was being taken advantage of and tried to end things, she was victimised by being given what was described as “bad duty”.

Sources revealed that the female soldier was charged with three offences.

The private was charged for conduct that prejudiced the good order and military discipline contrary to the Defence Act in the first document. The details outlined that on May 2, 2020, the woman soldier was at Burke Barracks conducting herself in a manner most unbecoming of a trained soldier by having sex in the parking lot of the same barracks.

The other charge stated that the female private’s offence was disobedience to the standing orders contrary to the Defence Act.

The details state that the woman soldier was at Burke Barracks, on a number of dates in 2020, and her actions contravened the JDF Policy on Personal Relationship and Fraternisation, which was known to her or she might reasonably be expected to know, but she entered into a personal relationship with a lieutenant.

Her relative accused the lieutenant of predatory behaviour. that was unacceptable
