Sevana Fined $300,000 For Death by Dangerous Driving, No Jail Time – YARDHYPE

November 18th, 2022

Following her submission of a guilty plea in October, reggae artist Sevana was fined $300,000 on Thursday for the charge of death by dangerous driving relating to the death of Ordia Cordiel in May 2021.

Reports state that Sevana, born Anna Blake, was driving in the company of her brother when her vehicle collided with a Honda Fit that was going in the opposite direction along the Scott Cove main road in Whitehouse, Westmoreland. 32-year-old Cordiel, who was a passenger in the Honda Fit, received life-threatening injuries and died after she was taken to the hospital.

During her sentencing hearing in the Westmoreland Parish Court earlier today, Sevana, 30, was overcome with emotion as she denied allegations from a social inquiry report that was read by probation officer Simeon Buchana. Speaking on the allegations that the singer had a rift with Cordiel’s family and had hosted a party in her community, Justice Daye said he could not place sufficient weight to those factors to give her a harsher sentence than the fine of $300,000, adding that she was barred for a period of two years from holding or obtaining a driver’s license.

Sevana was ordered to pay the fine or spend two years in prison. After pleading guilty to the charges in October, the artiste was facing a maximum of five years in prison.
