As a result of the new restrictions, persons who are not citizens nor permanent residents of Jamaica and have visited a country that’s on the list within the last 14 days will not be allowed on the island.

On the other hand, Jamaican Citizens or permanent residents who are returning to the island, but have visited one of the countries on the list will be subjected to a mandatory state-supervised quarantine for no less than 14 days.

The countries on the list are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

According to PM Holness, the actions were taken because of the new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 initially identified as B.1.1.529.
