Hurricane Beryl Now Category 5; Expected To Hit Jamaica Head On – Report

July 2nd, 2024

Historic hurricane Beryl which developed in late June, the first ever major storm to do so, is expected to engage with Jamaica on Wednesday, June 3, 2024, and according to meteorologists, Jamaica will be directly impacted.

An updated weather report on Tuesday morning (5 AM) by WESH 2 News, stated that Beryl is moving at 165 mph with a pressure of 935 millibars and “could potentially break the lowest pressure in July by a storm.” It was also mentioned that the core of the storm is currently to the south of Hispaniola.

The weather forecaster issuing the 5 AM advisory warned, “I’m really worried about Jamaica. They are expected to potentially see a direct impact with this.”

However, based on imagery of the forecast, Beryl is expected to weaken to a category 3 hurricane as it passes over Jamaica.

The effects of the hurricane are predicted to start affecting the island late Tuesday.
