4 Men Killed During Gun Battle With Cops in Kingston

Amidst heavy police presence in Downtown, Kingston, a fatal shootout early Wednesday morning resulted in the deaths of four men and one policeman injured. The incident unfolded when two officers patrolling Princess Street near the hospital heard gunfire erupting from Orange Street.

Upon investigating, the officers encountered a group of men exchanging gunfire. When the lawmen approached, the men turned their weapons on them, prompting a retaliatory exchange of fire. The gunmen dispersed, with some fleeing in a white Toyota vehicle.

A pursuit ensued, leading to a confrontation at the intersection of King Street and Charles Street, where the vehicle crashed. Six men emerged from the vehicle and opened fire on the police, resulting in three of them being shot and apprehended. Authorities recovered three 9mm pistols from the suspects, per reports.

Further inspection of the vehicle revealed two M-16 rifles. Despite the apprehension of three suspects, others managed to evade capture. One of the fleeing suspects later succumbed to gunshot wounds, while a constable from the Kingston West Division sustained injuries to his right arm during the exchange.

An investigation has been launched into the shootout, as law enforcement endeavours to piece together the events leading up to the deadly confrontation.
